Liz and Matt are one of my sweet couples who’s bigger day was affected by the pandemic. So they opted for a microwedding style day and honestly, it was perfect! It was a hot and humid day but the sun was actual perfection and we capture some of the most gorgeous images. We started the day with getting ready with both Liz and Matt. The ladies shared champagne and FaceTime calls with friends and family who couldn’t make the trip. This was my first wedding in the Covid Era and as much as I was overjoyed to be photographing a wedding again, I was also deeply saddened by what had to be sacrificed for the day to move forward. While many were missed on this day, Liz and Matt kept them involved with FaceTime calls and live streaming their ceremony for all not in attendance. And I love that we can still connect with our loved ones thanks to modern technology. We may not have been prepared to have weddings during a pandemic, but we definitely pivoted and used technology to our advantage as much as possible. And for what it’s worth, the trend of microweddings and elopements becoming more common is something I’m totally here for. Because the connection and intimacy of a small gathering is beautiful and special. The ceremony was short and sweet and we began shooting some group shots after that. During that time, a sweet little bumble bee landed on Liz’s bouquet, totally out of chance, as I was standing right there ready with my camera. LOVE moments like that. We ended the evening with dancing, toasts, dinner, and cutting the cake. What I loved most about their day was the first look with Liz and her bridesmaids, the couples portraits, and their first dance with Liz’s father playing piano. With such a small group of family and friends, everything was super intimate and personal, and it felt very present and in the moment for everyone.
