Back in March I announced some new changes for my business. My boyfriend Joe left his job to create alongside me! About 2 weeks prior to that, my friend and former bride Amanda (check out their New Year’s Eve wedding back on the main page of the blog!) reached out to ask if I knew any photographers in Mexico. Jokingly I said “me” with a laughing emoji. Less than an hour later two impulsive women decided we were going to make it happen. Since Joe had already planned to leave his job at this point, I was ecstatic that he could travel with me without using all of his vacation days. He began taking video courses and learned some basics well enough to document some of the session! Honestly, a destination session like this has been one of my dreams for years now, and getting to do it alongside the person I love was just next level. I was overcome with emotion that night and I still feel so blessed to be able to do this with Amanda + Chris! Below is some video footage that Joe shot and I edited. Since we’re new to this, it’s been a learning experience for both of us, but I’m so happy with what we created, and I’m so proud of him for taking the leap to learn a new skill and dive deep into creating.
We stayed at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya, and it was truly gorgeous from the moment we entered the gates of the property. We shot photos and video of Amanda + Chris all around the lush greenery of the resort and then down on the beach during sunset, and then again on the beach for sunrise the next morning. The sunrise took my breath away and I had to pinch myself. We truly had a blast with them the whole week since we added a few days to the stay to relax and enjoy a little vacation for ourselves. We relaxed on the beach sipping pina coladas', snorkeled in the clear blue waters with some sea turtles, shopped some local artisan stands, had dinner at a hibachi, saw a fire show, and just enjoyed each others company. It was an unforgettable and memorable trip for so many reasons. But what still blows me away is the fact that I got to travel somewhere beautiful and capture the connection of two beautiful humans in such a stunning landscape. I’ve photographed every phase of their love story so it just made sense to go along for the ride on this one too, and I look forward to many more adventures with them! I have endless gratitude for Amanda & Chris for blessing us with this trip, being incredibly generous and thoughtful during our stay, and being wonderful friends that we’ll treasure always.
